Privacy Policy
This policy explains what CropFarming.net collects when you visit. It also covers why we collect it, who else receives it, and what you can ask us to do about it.
It is written in plain language rather than legal filler. If something is unclear, write to contact@cropfarming.net and we will explain it.

The short version
You can read this site without giving us anything. We do not ask you to register, and we do not sell data to anyone.
What we collect is mostly automatic: server logs and anonymous analytics showing which pages get read. Affiliate links set cookies from the retailer, not from us.
What we collect
Information you give us
Email. If you write to us, we receive your email address and whatever you put in the message. We use it to answer you and nothing else.
Newsletter. If you subscribe, we store the email address you give and the date you subscribed. Every message includes an unsubscribe link that works immediately.
Comments. If you leave a comment, we store the name, email, and comment text you submit, along with your IP address and browser details. WordPress uses that to fight spam.
Information collected automatically
Server logs. Our host records standard data for every request: IP address, date and time, page requested, browser, operating system, and referring page. These are kept for security and troubleshooting.
Analytics. A web analytics tool shows which pages get read, how people arrive, and where they leave. That tells us which guides work and which need rewriting.
Cookies. Small files stored by your browser. The next section covers these in detail.
What we do not collect
We collect no payment details, because nothing is sold here. We do not ask for your name, address, phone number, or location. We build no advertising profiles, and we sell or rent data to nobody.
Cookies
Cookies fall into three groups here.
Necessary cookies. WordPress sets these to keep the site working. Comment on an article and one stores your name and email so you need not retype them. Session cookies expire when you close the browser.
Analytics cookies. Our analytics tool sets a cookie to tell a returning visitor from a new one. The data is aggregated. We see how many read a page, not who they were.
Affiliate cookies. Click a product link and the retailer sets a cookie recording where the visit came from. That is how a commission gets credited. The cookie belongs to the retailer, not to us, and their privacy policy governs it. Our affiliate disclosure explains the arrangement.
Turning cookies off
Every browser lets you block or delete cookies. Look under Settings, then Privacy.
Blocking cookies does not break this site. Pages load and read normally. Blocking affiliate cookies means a purchase goes uncredited, which costs us and costs you nothing.

Each has its own privacy policy. We control nothing they do beyond the purposes above. We share nothing with them that this table does not cover.
How long we keep things
Server logs. Retained by our host for a limited period, then overwritten. Ask us and we will tell you the current retention setting.
Analytics. Aggregated and kept up to 26 months so seasons can be compared. Individual sessions are not identifiable.
Emails you send us. Kept as long as needed to resolve the matter, then deleted in periodic cleanups.
Newsletter subscriptions. Kept until you unsubscribe. After that the address is removed from the active list.
Comments. Kept with the article, unless you ask for removal.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you have some or all of the rights below. We honor them for every visitor, wherever they are. Applying one standard is simpler than sorting readers by jurisdiction.
Access. Ask what we hold about you.
Correction. Ask us to fix anything inaccurate.
Deletion. Ask us to delete what we hold. We do it unless a law requires us to keep it.
Objection. Ask us to stop processing your data for a particular purpose.
Portability. Ask for a copy of what you gave us in a usable format.
Withdraw consent. Unsubscribe from the newsletter at any time using the link in any message.
To use any of these, write to contact@cropfarming.net with enough detail for us to find the record. We respond within 30 days.
If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom
Our legal bases are legitimate interest for analytics and site security, and consent for the newsletter. You may complain to your national data protection authority if you think we handled your data badly.
If you are in California
We do not sell or share personal information as the California Consumer Privacy Act defines those terms. You may ask what is collected and request deletion. We will not treat you differently for asking. Use the contact address above.
Children
This site is written for adults growing crops. It is not directed at children under 13, and we knowingly collect nothing from them.
If you believe a child has given us personal information, write to contact@cropfarming.net and we will delete it.
Links to other sites
Guides on this site link to extension services, USDA publications, manufacturer documentation, and retailers.
Follow a link and you are on their site under their rules. We are not responsible for their content or privacy practices. Reading their policy first is worth the minute it takes.
Security
The site runs over HTTPS, so traffic between your browser and our server is encrypted. Administration access is limited to the people who need it.
No site can promise perfect security, and we will not pretend otherwise. We do collect very little, which limits what there is to lose.
Do Not Track
Browsers can send a Do Not Track signal. No agreed standard exists for how sites should respond, so this site does not act on it.
You can achieve the same result by blocking cookies in your browser settings, which does work.
Changes to this policy
When this policy changes we update the date at the top. Material changes, such as a new advertising network or analytics tool, stay noted on this page for at least 30 days.
Checking back occasionally is a reasonable habit if the details matter to you.
